Sisters went viral on TikTok for a video in which they reacted to finding a jacket one of them hand-painted as a special gift for a friend
The video shows Martha, who personalized the garment, reacting to seeing the special item discarded at a Goodwill store
Their post has more than 33 million views with thousands of people reacting to the surprising situation
Would you ever expect to rebuy a present you made for someone else? The average person would likely say no, but one woman in North Carolina went through this exact scenario, which turned her recent shopping trip to the thrift store sour.
On March 22, Emily Holman posted a TikTok video about her and her 18-year-old sister, Martha, stumbling upon a jean jacket that was hand-painted and gifted to a friend for Christmas. In the clip, which has garnered over 30 million views on the app, the teen can be seen looking distressed and sad about finding the once sentimental item.
Emily, 21, tells PEOPLE that they found it at a local Goodwill and clocked what the item was the "minute" they spotted it. As soon as she "touched" the jacket, Martha says, "I knew exactly what it was," adding that this was the first time she's seen something she personally made discarded and donated for resale.

The garment wasn't just any old thing, either. It took a few weeks for Martha to paint the design, which was inspired by Christian singer Anne Wilson’s album Rebel, of which her now-former friend was a fan.
Martha and the recipient of the gift were friends for 10 years and are no longer in each other's lives (for reasons unrelated to the jacket).

Despite plenty of people in the comment section encouraging the two to get revenge ("Gift it to her again," one viewer wrote), the sisters haven't, and seemingly won't, confront the person who was once a companion.

They are giving the jacket a third life, though. They re-bought the jacket for $6.99 so that Martha can repaint some of the design. Its potential new owner? A viewer who reached out to the sister right after the video went live. "I think he is planning on giving it to his girlfriend."
Emily and Martha were invited to Wilson's concert, which became a silver lining. They shared an update on Instagram with Wilson actually wearing the jacket. At the time of writing, they shared their hopes for Wilson to make the jacket even more one-of-a-kind with her signature.
