As gas prices remain high across the United States from the Iran war and customers feel financial pressure at the pump, one fast-food chain is offering a bit of relief.
Papa John's will give customers the chance to earn restaurant rewards when ordering carryout, which they can later apply to future orders as a discount, the pizza chain announced April 2. The program, named "Pizza Miles," aims to help reimburse carryout customers for gas through the reward system.
With the program set to run through this upcoming weekend, here's what to know about getting reimbursed by Papa John's.
What is the new Papa John's gas program?
Members of Papa Rewards, the chain's rewards program, can opt into "Pizza Miles" from Friday, April 3, to Sunday, April 5. If they opt in, members will receive $4 in Papa Dough, Papa John's redeemable reward currency, when they place a carryout order of $10 or more through the chain's app or website.
“If you’re choosing carryout, we’re choosing to reward you for it,” Lyndsie Adams, vice president of customer marketing and media at Papa John's, said in a news release. “Pizza Miles gives our most loyal Papa Rewards members real value back in Papa Dough, simply for picking up the pizza they already love.”
Customers can join the Papa John's reward program for free by signing up through the Papa John's app or website. Typically, customers earn $1 in Papa Dough for every $10 spent, which can be used for future orders.
"Papa Dough is valid for 14 days and can be redeemed on future orders through the Papa Johns app − giving fans an easy way to turn today’s drive into tomorrow’s value," the news release states.
Other companies offer discounts amid high gas prices
DoorDash also launched a financial relief program amid soaring gas prices across the United States.

The delivery service's new program is set to offer 10% cash back to DoorDash Dashers filling up on gas, including those who use DoorDash cards. Weekly relief payments are also available for Dashers who drive 125 miles or more while dashing, the company said in a release.
Dashers who qualify for both cash back and relief payments could save between $1.40-$1.90 per gallon based on miles driven while actively completing deliveries in a week, according to the release.
Gas prices soar as Iran war continues
U.S-Israel's war against Iran has put pressure on gas stations since attacks launched in late February. Consumers have seen prices jump by a $1 at the pump over the month, while the United States, Israel and Iran enter a new phase in the ongoing war, in which oil and gas have become key targets for both sides.

Much of the pressure comes from Iran blocking the Strait of Hormuz, a 100-mile waterway connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, which carries 20% of the world’s oil shipments and about 20% of the world’s seaborne liquified natural gas.
Negotiations continue between Iran and U.S. government officials, with President Donald Trump saying on March 26 that Iranian officials allowed 10 "big boats of oil" through the Strait of Hormuz as a show of good faith during backchannel negotiations with the United States. Consumers are still seeing high prices, however, with the AAA reporting a national gas average of $4.081 as of April 2.
