Jeff Bezos, Sanchez’s husband, is reportedly serving as a major financial contributor to the 2026 Met Gala, scheduled for May 4 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. According to those familiar with the situation, Sanchez has played a key role in bringing that partnership together, with one insider describing the gala as something she feels personally invested in. That level of involvement, they say, could give her more freedom to present herself on her own terms.

Hollywood insider Rob Shuter claimed that Lauren Sanchez drove the vision behind the event. “Lauren bought this ball. It might be Jeff’s money, but it was Laurens’s idea.” Bezos “doesn’t care about fashion” and primarily serves as its financial backer.

Shuter added that Bezos has reportedly spent “millions of dollars” to position Sanchez at the “belle of the ball,” effectively making her the standout figure of the gala. He also suggested that the dynamic could test Anna Wintour’s reaction.
