Larry David is raising money for Florida Senate candidate Alex Vindman

Larry David, co-creator of “Seinfeld” and star of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” is raising money for Florida Democratic Senate candidate Alex Vindman, a former military officer who played a key role in President Donald Trump’s first impeachment.

Vindman is running for the Democratic nomination to challenge incumbent Republican Sen. Ashley Moody and serve out the remaining two years of Marco Rubio’s term. Rubio is now secretary of state.

In a social media post, David said he wanted to boost Vindman’s campaign even if it is “cutting into nap time.”

“The man is everything I’m not, which should give you an idea of what a tremendous person he is,” David said in the post. “Vindman is not a puppet. He loves this country. He loves it so much it’s almost off-putting. I love it too, but come on. Get a life, Vindman!”

The Vindman campaign confirmed the post is authentic. According to Federal Election Commission records, Vindman raised about $8.2 million in campaign contributions during the first three months of 2026.

Moody raised about $8.4 million during the same time frame, according to the FEC. The Moody campaign did not respond to an email seeking comment about David’s contribution.

Who is Larry David?

David created the "Seinfeld" show with Jerry Seinfeld, who was one of the four main characters. During its nine-season run in the 1990s it was one of the top-rated shows on television. Later, David essentially starred as a fictionalized version of himself in "Curb Your Enthusiasm," which ran for 12 seasons ending in 2024. David has won two Emmy Awards and numerous other accolades.

Cheryl Hines, wife of U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., starred as David's long-suffering wife, Cheryl David.

While "Seinfeld" generally steered clear of political issues, on "Curb" David had a storyline involving his violation of Georgia law by handing a water bottle to a person waiting in line to vote. It became somewhat famous in Georgia, with former governor candidate Stacey Abrams praising the show and a response from state officials outlining the reasons for the ban.

Who is Alex Vindman?

Vindman, 50, is a retired Army lieutenant colonel who served in combat in Iraq and later on the National Security Council. He played a key role in the first Trump impeachment over whether the president improperly tried to influence Ukraine to investigate Hunter Biden’s role in the country. Trump, who famously said he had a “perfect call” with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, was acquitted by the Senate in that matter.

In the meantime, Vindman appeared on two episodes of David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” show including the finale in 2024. One episode was a parody of the Trump call in which Vindman overhears David trying to make a shady deal with a local official over a pool fence.

“It was a perfect call,” David says, mimicking Trump's comments.

Vindman faces state Rep. Angie Nixon for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination. Moody has several lesser-known opponents for the Republican nod. The primary election is Aug. 18.

Vindman's twin brother, Eugene Vindman, is a Democratic member of Congress from Virginia. He also is a former military officer. The brothers are of Ukrainian descent.
