Kristin Chenoweth celebrated her “gotcha day” on July 30, commemorating the 58th anniversary of her adoption.

“It’s not just for pets,” the singer wrote alongside photos with her parents, Jerry Chenoweth and Junie Chenoweth.

Chenoweth was also close with her birth mother, Wanda Lynn Cooper, who passed away in August 2023.

Kristin Chenoweth celebrated a very special milestone this week. The Broadway star commemorated her “gotcha day,” a.k.a. the anniversary of her adoption by parents Junie Chenoweth and Jerry Chenoweth 58 years ago.

Kristin shared an Instagram carousel of photos featuring herself and her parents over the years, accompanied by a touching caption. “Yesterday was my GOTCHA DAY (it’s not just for pets!!) The day my parents brought me home 58 years ago and I became a Chenoweth,” the singer wrote.

Among the snaps was one of Kristin’s parents seeing her off at her Dallas wedding to husband Josh Bryant in 2023. She stood in a blush pink Pamella Roland wedding gown with an oversized bow as her parents looked on adoringly. “I’m so blessed and grateful for this beautiful life they gave me. I love you, mom and dad!!” the Wicked star added.

The Oklahoma native is open about how close she is to her parents, stepping out with them at select high-profile events, including her 2015 Hollywood Walk of Fame induction ceremony, and often sharing images of them on social media. “There’s nothing like a mother’s love,” Kristin wrote on Mother’s Day.

A month later, she shared photos of herself with her father over the years, including a throwback moment from her childhood. “Literally the best dad in the world!! Happy Father’s Day Daddio, love you!” she captioned the slideshow.

Kristin has always known that she was adopted. “It was never a secret or held from me,” she shared in a heartfelt piece for WhoSayin honor of National Adoption Day in 2015. “I knew that my birth mother loved me so much that she wanted to give me a better life. And my parents, Jerry and Junie Chenoweth, were looking to adopt a baby and found me—literally less than one week after I was born.”

In 2012, Kristin reconnected with her birth mother, Wanda Lynn Cooper, whom she affectionately called “Mamalynn.” While appearing on Live With Kelly and Mark in 2023, the actress recalled that meeting Cooper “was like looking in a mirror.” Sadly, Cooper passed away in August of that same year.

“Happy heavenly birthday to my Mamalynn,” Kristin penned in memory of Cooper on Instagram this year.
