LONDON – King Charles III and Queen Camilla were dazzled by the White House's newly remodeled Oval Office, according to President Donald Trump, who personally oversaw the room's lavish golden makeover.
"King Charles walked in last week with his great wife," Trump told Lara Trump in an interview broadcast by Fox News Saturday, May 30. "She looked and she said 'Oh, this is the Oval Office,'" Trump continued, as he showed Lara around the room, ornate gold frames hanging on the wall behind them.
"You know, they have Buckingham Palace and places – but the most powerful room in the world, right here," Trump said, while describing the queen as "terrific."
Rod Stewart lauds King Charles' 'superb' US trip, slams Trump
In April, as both sides of the Atlantic watched on, the king and queen carried out their first state visit to the United States as monarchs. The trip came amid growing tensions between the two nations over the Iran war and calls in Britain for the royal visit to be canceled.
But the historic four-day trip went ahead and was widely considered a success. There were scones, a garden party and an afternoon tea at the White House. Charles marked the anniversary of America's independence from British rule, delivering a rare address to a joint session of Congress, reaffirming the special relationship between the U.S. and United Kingdom. Later, Charles and Trump exchanged toasts at a formal state dinner.
This is not the first time Trump has touted the alleged royal response to his blinged out Oval Office.

Analysis: Charles and Camilla put on a show for the US. We are not entertained.
President Donald Trump pats Britain's King Charles III on the leg during a meeting in the Oval Office of the White House on April 28, 2026 in Washington, DC.
"When they came into the Oval Office, they said, 'This is something,'" Trump said last month of the king and queen's apparent reaction to the gilded room. "And they've seen some very nice places. They've seen some great rooms."
While Trump appeared to relish in the supposed royal feedback, many Brits on social media were quick to point out that saying "this is something," as a response is not always a compliment and is a phrase that often denotes sarcasm.
"'This is something' that is a noncommittal comment. It's what you say when you have nothing good to say," wrote one of many X users drawing attention to the king and queen's reaction. "A British person saying 'this is something' is probably the most insulting we can be," wrote another.
It's not just the Oval Office that Trump has put his maximalist design stamp on. The 47th president has been working on giving other areas of the White House a facelift, too.
Since returning for a second term, Trump has carried out a string of controversial redecorating decisions, swapping grass for gravel as he paved over the iconic Rose Garden lawn and demolishing the East Wing with a vision to build a 90,000-square-foot ballroom.
