Grayson Waller made a surprise return to WWE NXT on the July 28 episode. He immediately reminded everyone of his microphone skills. After spending the last three years on the main roster, Waller delivered a fiery promo about his career, the NXT men’s division, and several current stars.

The unexpected appearance caught the crowd by surprise as Waller said he was back to “rattle some cages.” He looked back at some of the biggest moments of his WWE career, including his main roster debut at Madison Square Garden and winning the SmackDown Tag Team Championship with Austin Theory at WrestleMania 40. But according to Waller, things went downhill after that.

Waller said the last two years of his WWE career have been “an absolute embarrassment.” He wondered if he had said the wrong thing backstage or simply didn’t play the political game. He insisted the problem was never his talent or effort.

A big part of Waller’s promo focused on Austin Theory. The two found success together as A-Town Down Under, but Waller now believes the partnership held him back.

He mocked Theory by calling him “240 pounds of idiot” and joked that “that Marty Jannetty is still allergic to the microphone.” The crowd reacted loudly as Waller claimed he did most of the work while getting very little credit.

He also joked that he spent the last year playing a supporting role in someone else’s story. While he wore clothes fit for a funeral, he said the only thing actually dying was his own career.

Even with all that frustration, Grayson Waller made it clear he wasn’t interested in sitting around and collecting a paycheck. He said he returned to NXT because he still has unfinished business.

Waller admitted the NXT Championship has always bothered him because he never won it. He listed former champions like Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Seth Rollins, Johnny Gargano, Bron Breakker, Trick Williams, Carmelo Hayes, and Oba Femi. Waller believes all of them became bigger stars because they held the title.

Since he never won the championship, Waller said he has been treated like “a Netflix ad break comedy act.” Now, he wants to change that.

Waller announced that he is coming after Tony D’Angelo’s NXT Championship and also called out recent debutant Cruz Montana. Waller went on to mock his past success in TNA Wrestling.

“It’s not 2005 lad, being the top guy in TNA Wrestling is like being the best basketball player at the local YMCA,” Waller said.

When production tried to cut off his microphone, he challenged Shawn Michaels to send someone out to stop him. As fans chanted “HBK,” Waller turned his attention to the rest of the NXT men’s roster.

He called them soft, lazy, and too comfortable. He even said the NXT women’s division was “running laps” around the men. Waller believes too many wrestlers are happy just making it to WWE instead of trying to become top stars.

Even after WWE muted his microphone, Waller refused to stop talking. He tossed the mic aside, walked up to a ringside camera, and kept delivering his message until the segment was cut.
