George Clooney and family evacuate French town amid wildfires: ‘We have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through’

George Clooney announced his family has evacuated their farmhouse in southeastern France amid wildfires in the region.
“At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment,” he wrote in a letter.
Clooney has said his children “have a much better life” in France than they would in Hollywood.
As wildfires spread across Southern Europe, more than 300,000 people have been evacuated in France and Spain, including George Clooney and his family.
The Academy Award winner announced on Wednesday that he, his wife Amal Clooney, and their 9-year-old twins Alexander and Ella, have fled their residence in Brignoles, a small historic town in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of southeastern France.
“At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment,” the Clooneys wrote in a letter to Brignoles mayor Didier Brémond. “As we evacuate Brignoles we want to emphasise 2 things, first we hope you and the people of our city are safe and second that Amal and I are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole. We love Brignoles and our friends who live there.”

A representative for Clooney did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.
Clooney opened up to Esquire last year about the decision to raise his children in France, where the family lives on a farm — just like he did growing up in Kentucky.
“As a kid I hated the whole idea of it,” he admitted. “But now, for them, it’s like — they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life.”
If the family had remained in Los Angeles, Clooney worried about “the culture of Hollywood” and its effect on the twins.

“I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life,” he explained. “France — they kind of don’t give a s--- about fame. I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”

As for the Hollywood star, he found himself right back in the saddle on the farm.
“I drive a tractor and all those things,” Clooney told The New York Times in February 2025. “It’s the best chance at a normal life.”
As of Wednesday, the reports wildfires in southwest France have swelled to four times the size of Paris.
In the southeastern region where the Clooneys live, 3,000 people have evacuated, according to CNN. In the southwest, another 224,000 were forced to flee the Gironde region. French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said it may be France’s largest peacetime evacuation.
