Dakota Johnson made one of the most talked-about entrances at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, when she walked into the Women in Cinema event wearing a white, sheer Chloé gown.

The dress, mostly see-through except for tiered lace strips covering her sleeves, bust, and hips, flowed to the floor and immediately became one of the standout looks of the night.

The Materialists star attended the Friday-evening showcase as part of the festival’s celebration of global filmmaking. Though the gown showed plenty of skin, Johnson added a softer touch with a modest ruffle skirt around her pelvic area, looking like a twist that still felt elegant and classic.

She paired the outfit with white Paris Texas heels and glittering Chopard jewelry that added shimmer under the event lights.

Fans quickly reacted online after Entertainment Tonight shared photos of the look.

“She’s so gorgeous! Love her fashion sense,” one person wrote.

Another added, “Miss D.J. is a fashion icon! I adore every style she wears.”

A commenter who loved the boldness said, “So very few people could pull this dress off and she does it to the complete next level.”

Even those who weren’t sold on the outfit couldn’t deny her poise, with one saying, “It’s a no on the dress but her glam is always perfect,”

“It looks like she’s wearing one of my grandma’s doilies,” another joked.

Still, the most common reaction stayed the same: “Everything looks good on her.”

A Signature Style Moment for Dakota Johnson

Johnson is no stranger to sheer red-carpet looks. Her stylist, Kate Young, has helped her craft a now-recognizable style filled with delicate fabrics and bold transparency. Just this past September, she attended the Zurich Film Festival in a custom sheer blue gown with a dramatic tulle skirt.

Weeks later, she wore a full lace, completely sheer Gucci dress to the Kering Foundation’s Caring for Women Dinner. And earlier in 2024, she appeared at the Madame Web world premiere wearing a chainmail dress that became one of the night’s most memorable looks.

And while the white lace look caught attention, it wasn’t her only standout moment of the festival. Johnson also appeared at the opening gala in a black bralette top paired with a long matching skirt from Alessandra Rich.

The outfit featured bold cutouts and a thigh-high slit, which she styled with black slingback pumps and a diamond bib necklace.

The Red Sea International Film Festival returned for its fifth edition and brought major Hollywood names to Jeddah’s historic Al-Balad district. Stars including Ana de Armas, Rita Ora and Jessica Alba joined Johnson at the event, each delivering their own dramatic red-carpet looks.

This year’s theme, “For the Love of Cinema,” centered on showcasing Arab filmmakers and supporting bold global storytelling.

Beyond fashion, Johnson also took part in a conversation series where she discussed her journey as both an actress and producer. She shared how growing up on film sets shaped her goals and explained that producing has become a meaningful, but challenging, part of her career.

“I grew up in this industry,” she said during the talk, reflecting on her parents Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith. She added that producing lets her explore stories about “women and people going through some sort of evolution,” a theme she continues to focus on with her company TeaTime Pictures.

While not everyone agreed on the dress itself, the reaction made one thing clear: Dakota Johnson’s presence at the Red Sea International Film Festival was one of the event’s most unforgettable highlights.
