Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt got married on July 29, 2000, and separated five years later

The former couple’s Malibu ceremony reportedly included 50,000 flowers, a gospel choir and a wall of caviar for guests

Aniston’s dad told PEOPLE it was a “spectacular wedding”

It’s been 26 years since Hollywood stars Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt said “I do” along the Pacific coast.

On July 29, 2000, the actors exchanged their self-written vows in front of nearly 200 of their closest friends and family, kicking off a celebration that event planners have estimated might’ve cost them $1 million. The wedding reportedly had everything from a wall of caviar to a 13-minute fireworks show, though much of it was kept private.

Still, some details have trickled out from guests over the years.

The former couple’s marriage ended just five years later, when they announced their separation to PEOPLE in January 2005. They both went on to remarry in the years to follow, Pitt to Angelina Jolie in August 2014 and Aniston to Justin Theroux one year later. Following their divorces, Pitt has been dating Ines de Ramon since late 2022, while Aniston has been in a relationship with hypnotherapist and wellness expert Jim Curtis since 2025.

Although its been years since Aniston and Pitt’s relationship came to an end, their wedding remains one of the most famed Hollywood nuptials.

Aniston and Pitt got married in Malibu

Aniston and Pitt wed on a five-acre Malibu clifftop estate that they rented from TV executive Marcy Carsey, and which directly overlooked the Pacific Ocean.

The guests then moved to a private, large white marquee for the reception, which was filled with 50,000 flowers, four bands and a gospel choir, PEOPLE previously reported.

Sources told PEOPLE in 2000 that the tents were full of roses, wisteria and tulips, as well as floating lotus flowers in a specially built slate fountain, in hopes of creating the “Zen garden look” that Pitt wanted, an employee told PEOPLE.

Meanwhile, Thailand-imported candles made from brown sugar filled the reception tent, filling Aniston’s wish of having “tons of candles.”

“We made it very romantic,” the employee said.

The wedding reportedly cost around $1 million

PEOPLE previously reported that event planners estimated that the wedding cost around $1 million.

According to ABC News, they reportedly spent $75,000 for flowers and $20,000 on the 13-minute fireworks display. However, the former couple and their representatives never confirmed the price estimates.

Per the outlet, they reportedly spent nearly $100,000 on security in an effort to keep the day private. Staffers had to sign a document that made them liable for a penalty of up to $100,000 if they discussed the wedding, PEOPLE previously reported. Meanwhile, they worked with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to have an inspector on-site in case the airspace above the property became full of helicopters during the event.

There were about 200 guests

Pitt and Aniston were surrounded by roughly 200 of their friends, family and costars as they tied the knot. PEOPLE previously reported that guests had been contacted weeks earlier via phone before being mailed invitations at a later date.

Aniston had two bridesmaids for the celebration: actress Andréa Bendewald and documentary filmmaker Kristin Hahn-Stringer. Meanwhile, Pitt’s brother, Doug Pitt, was his best man, and his father acted as a second groomsman.

The guest list included Aniston’s Friends costars, including Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer, though Matt LeBlanc could not attend as he was filming in Budapest. Edward Norton (who brought then-girlfriend Salma Hayek as his date), Kathy Najimy, David Spade and Cameron Diaz were also in attendance.

Aniston wore a floor-length, low-backed gown

Aniston has kept photos of her dress private, but she wore a Lawrence Steele floor-length, low-backed gown made of satin and silk and covered in glass beads.

A source told PEOPLE in 2000 that Aniston wanted her gown “to be sexy but pretty,” something that would “show off her toned arms.”

The Just Go with It actress completed the look with a pair of four-inch ivory suede Manolo Blahnik heels. As for the sparkling accessories, Aniston also reportedly wore a pearl-and-Swarovski-crystal crown with a traditional white circular veil draped over it.

Her bridesmaids wore pale green slip dresses also designed by Steele, while the flower girls dressed in cream silk frocks.

Following their nuptials, Aniston’s father, late Days of Our Lives actor John Aniston, told PEOPLE in 2000 that she “looked beautiful.”

“It was a spectacular wedding,” he said.

Aniston and Pitt wrote their own vows

Aniston and Pitt wrote their own vows for the ceremony, which lasted about 15 minutes. Aniston promised to continue making Pitt’s “favorite banana milkshake,” while Pitt said he would “split the difference on the thermostat,” PEOPLE previously reported.

When it came time to recite the more traditional vows together, Aniston missed a cue and joked, “Oh, I’ve never done this before!”

One guest said the reception had a “wall of caviar”

The main courses were crab, lobster, peppercorn beef, risotto and pasta, paired with Dom Perignon champagne, and finished off with a six-tier cake, PEOPLE previously reported.

Twenty years after the event, Michael Rapaport appeared on Watch What Happens Livein August 2023 and not only revealed that he got a spot on the guest list, but also shared that Aniston and Pitt “had a wall of caviar” at the event.

“I’m still eating the caviar from that, shoveling it down,” Rapaport told host Andy Cohen, noting that there were “a lot of bucks there.”
